Upcoming Event: Climate Adaptation Webinar Series for Forestry Professionals
Dear FAN members,
You may be interested in this upcoming event series that takes a deep dive into the challenges and opportunities of advancing climate change adaptation implementation in Canada’s natural resource sectors, including forestry.
The Climate Risk Institute is proud to host an inaugural webinar series to mark the official launch of Advancing Implementation in Canada’s Natural Resource Sectors — a free, online peer learning community dedicated to advancing climate change adaptation implementation in practice. As the group’s first offering, this webinar series provides a unique opportunity for professionals across forestry, mining, and energy sectors to both share their own experiences and learn from others’ real-world approaches to putting climate change plans into action.
Join dynamic, sector-specific webinars with guest speakers and interactive discussions where we will explore the drivers, enablers, and barriers (DEBs) that shape adaptation implementation in Canada’s natural resource sectors.
🌲 Why this matters for FAN members
- Kickoff Webinar – October 9, 2025 (1:00–2:30pm ET)
Shaping Our Peer Learning Community: Kickoff for Advancing Adaptation Implementation. This first session will introduce the Advancing Adaptation Implementation peer learning group, and highlight synergies with the Forestry Adaptation Network, including how the two groups align and how members can benefit from being part of both. Participants will also have the chance to shape these online communities by providing feedback, reviewing features, and expressing their information and support needs as they relate to adaptation. - Forestry-Sector Webinar – October 16, 2025 (1:00–2:30pm ET)
This session will spotlight innovation at the intersection of forest management and climate adaptation. Dante Maggiotto and his research team from the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Science will present Firebird — an AI-powered wildfire prediction platform that integrates artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, and meteorological data. This tool supports proactive wildfire management by forecasting high-risk zones and spread dynamics, helping to safeguard forests, ecosystems, and communities.
For FAN members, this series offers a chance to:
- Gain insights into cutting-edge adaptation technologies relevant to forest resilience.
- Connect with peers across Canada advancing applied adaptation practices in forestry.
- Contribute to a shared knowledge base that strengthens tools and approaches for climate-ready forest management.
- Influence the direction of two peer learning communities that support adaptation professionals.
By sharing insights and validating emerging findings, you’ll help create practical resources—empowering stronger, more effective adaptation implementation across forestry and other natural resource sectors.
